As a severe heat wave sweeps across Bangladesh, the temperature in one of the worst-hit districts in the country, Chuadanga, soared to 42.2°C.

The temperature was recorded at 3pm on Thursday (25 April), said the Chuadanga Meteorological Observatory.

At that time, the humidity in the air was 14%, it added.

The meteorological office said that such heat waves will continue for the next few days.

Jaminur Rahman, in charge of Chuadanga Meteorological Observatory, said, “After the intense heat wave, a very intense heat wave is flowing over Chuadanga district. The ongoing heatwave will continue until it rains.”

“There is no chance of rainfall in April. During this time, the discomfort may increase due to the excess of water vapour,” he added.

He also said that the Tropic of Cancer has passed over the Chuadanga district, so the temperature in this district is always higher than normal.

Meanwhile, the scorching sun and intense heat waves have brought disaster to the normal life of people.

Robiul Islam, a restaurant worker, said, “Food cooked in the morning is getting spoiled by noon. So, it has to be cooked little by little. This increases both time and cost. But people are coming to eat very little food this summer compared to other times.”
