Two farmers and two schoolboys were killed in separate lightning strikes in Comilla on Monday (28 April) during morning and afternoon thunderstorms in Cumilla.
The first incident occurred around 10:30am near the Korbanpur East Para cemetery field, under Bangra Bazar police station in Muradnagar upazila.
The victims, identified as Jewel Bhuiyan, 35, son of Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan of Deora village, and Nikhil Debnath, 60, son of the late Bircharan Debnath of West Para (Kalibari) in Korbanpur village, were working in the fields when a sudden bolt of lightning struck, killing them instantly, according to eyewitness accounts.
Local representative Shafiqul Islam confirmed the incident, while the officer-in-charge of Bangra Bazar police station stated that the bodies were handed over to their families after notification from locals.
Later that day, around midday, two schoolboys lost their lives in a separate lightning strike in Poyalgacha village, Khoshbas Union, under Barura upazila.
The deceased were identified as Fahad Hossain, 13, son of the late Khokon Miah, and Saimon Hossain, grandson of Abdul Barek Miah, both sixth-grade students at Boro Haripur High School.
Witnesses reported that the boys had been flying kites under mildly overcast skies when they were fatally struck.
Despite being rushed to hospital by local residents, doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
The sudden tragedies have plunged both areas into mourning.
Barura police said another youth was injured in the incident.
