Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned that by 6pm on Thursday, storms with winds up to 60 km/h may affect 8 districts, and river ports in these areas are advised to hoist cautionary signal number one

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast that by 6pm on Thursday (5 September).

"Storms with wind speeds of up to 60 km/h could hit eight districts. Simultaneously, river ports in these districts have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number one," the BMD said in its latest weather update bulletin.

The monsoon is currently moderately active over Bangladesh and remains in a medium state over the northern Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure area may form over the west-central Bay of Bengal and its adjacent northwestern regions within the next 24 hours, it added.

It stated that regions including Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, and Sylhet may experience temporary gusty or squally winds from the south or southeast at speeds between 45 and 60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms.
