The area surrounding Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka surged with protest on Friday (11 April) as worshippers and activists rallied for the establishment of a free Palestinian state and condemned what they termed as Israel’s barbaric genocide in Gaza.
The protests unfolded in the aftermath of Jummah prayers, with demonstrators marching under the banners of various Islamic parties and organisations.
Slogans of solidarity with the Palestinian people rang through the air, as speakers demanded decisive international pressure to halt Israel’s military aggression.
At the mosque’s northern gate, Islami Jubo Andolon Bangladesh—Dhaka North and South chapters—organised a major rally.
Simultaneously, separate protests were held by Bangladesh Tisri Insaaf Dal and Jatiya Imam Samaj Bangladesh, all echoing the call for justice and accountability.
Leaders of Islami Jubo Andolon decried Israel’s actions as a flagrant violation of humanity, urging a total boycott of Israeli products.
“We appeal to local businesses importing Israeli goods—cease this trade immediately. The devout people of this nation will always stand by Palestine,” said one speaker.
They further condemned what they called a US-Israeli-backed campaign of terror in Gaza, arguing that the mass killings defied the rules of war.
“Unable to defeat Hamas, Israel is targeting innocent women, children and civilians. Nearly 60,000 people have already been killed. Yet global institutions, including the United Nations, remain inert. It is time for the OIC and all relevant bodies to act,” they declared.
Speakers at the Tisri Insaaf Dal rally asserted that Israel had affronted humanity by killing unarmed civilians, including children.
They urged the global public to reject Israeli products and rally behind the Palestinian cause.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Imam Samaj leaders described Israel’s brutal assault as a harbinger of the Dajjal’s arrival, referencing Islamic prophecy. “The words of the Holy Prophet are manifesting before our eyes. As Muslims, we now have a religious obligation to oppose Israel,” they said, expressing unwavering support for Islamic parties leading such movements in Bangladesh.
They also called on other Muslim-majority countries to follow suit, demanding a definitive list of Israeli goods for a nationwide boycott.
The demonstrations concluded with multiple processions pledging continued resistance to Israeli aggression and unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
