Police arrested 66 individuals, including several convicted fugitives and five members of the banned student outfit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), during a special 24-hour drive that ended at noon today.
Md Mahmudul Alam, Inspector of the Special Branch at the office of the Superintendent of Police in Dinajpur, confirmed the matter on Saturday (19 April).
"During the drive, police arrested 66 individuals, including five members of the banned student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), eight accused in drug-related cases, and five fugitives, one of whom had been sentenced to life imprisonment," said Inspector Mahmudul Alam.
In addition, police detained 29 more individuals with outstanding arrest warrants and 19 others accused in regular cases.
All arrestees were produced before the Dinajpur Sadar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court today. The court ordered that all convicted individuals be sent to prison.
Inspector Mahmudul Alam added that the special operations will continue throughout April to maintain law and order in the district.
