Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing has been a "hugely successful" engagement, with China reaffirming its support for the country’s interim government, said CA's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
The meeting, held at the Great Hall of the People on Friday (28 March), saw discussions on economic cooperation, investment, and financial assistance, according to Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
In a Facebook post, Shafiqul wrote that President Xi pledged to encourage Chinese investment in Bangladesh and facilitate the relocation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises.
China also expressed positive consideration of Bangladesh’s proposals, including lowering interest rates on Chinese loans and strengthening cooperation in water resources management.
Beyond trade and finance, the discussion also touched on President Xi’s fondness for Bangladeshi fruits, particularly mangoes and jackfruit, adding a personal touch to the diplomatic exchange.
Following his meeting with Xi, Yunus attended an Investment Dialogue with Chinese business leaders in Beijing, aiming to showcase Bangladesh’s business-friendly environment and attract further Chinese investment.
The chief adviser is also set to participate in three round-table discussions, focusing on key sectors:
- Sustainable Infrastructure and Energy Investment
- Bangladesh 2.0: Manufacturing and Market Opportunities
- Social Business, Youth Entrepreneurship, and the World of Three Zeros
Yunus’s four-day visit to China continues to build momentum for deeper economic ties between the two nations, with an emphasis on investment, infrastructure, and trade cooperation.
