The National Consensus Commission has announced its intention to engage political parties in discussions at the earliest opportunity and swiftly reach an agreement to draft a national charter.
Vice President of the commission, Ali Riaz, made the statement at a press conference held on Monday (10 March) morning at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building.
Responding to a question, he noted that constitutional amendments could be enacted through ordinances, as had occurred previously in Bangladesh.
The press conference was attended by commission members Badiul Alam Majumdar, Iftekharuzzaman, Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Safar Raj Hossain, Emdadul Haque, and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant (Consensus) Monir Haider.
Ali Riaz informed that the commission has sought feedback from 34 political parties and alliances on 166 key reform recommendations.
The commission expects to receive responses by 13 March, after which discussions will commence, though specific dates have yet to be set.
He urged political parties and alliances to submit their opinions at the earliest opportunity, as deliberations will begin soon after receiving their feedback.
“The next steps in this process depend on the political parties. We aim to initiate discussions without delay and reach a consensus within a short period to formulate a national charter,” he stated.
