Two individuals were killed in an exchange of gunfire during a joint forces operation in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, in the early hours of Thursday (20 February).
Five others were taken into custody following the incident.
The confrontation occurred at approximately 1am in the Chand Udyan area along the Mohammadpur-Basila Road. The deceased have been identified as Jumman and Miraj, though further details regarding their identities remain unavailable at this time.
According to police, members of the joint forces were conducting a routine patrol when they came under sudden gunfire from a group of armed assailants on Road 6 of Chand Udyan.
The security personnel retaliated, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
Assistant Commissioner AKM Mehedi Hasan of the Mohammadpur Zone, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, stated that two army personnel sustained injuries during the exchange.
Authorities arrested five individuals at the scene and seized a cache of weapons.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the morgue of Suhrawardy Medical College for post-mortem examination.
