The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has recorded a 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck western Iran on Sunday evening.
According to the NCM, the tremor was detected at 10:55pm UAE time and occurred at a depth of 10km beneath the surface.
Iran, situated in a seismically active zone where the Arabian Plate collides with the Eurasian Plate, frequently experiences earthquakes of varying intensity.
