A strong earthquake rocked Delhi in the early hours of Monday (17 February) morning, with tremors felt across India's National Capital Region (NCR).
According to India's National Centre for Seismology, the quake struck at approximately 5:36am at a shallow depth of five kilometres, with its epicentre located within the capital itself.
Residents took to social media to describe the seismic event as one of the “most insane earthquakes” they had experienced, with many calling it the “scariest few minutes” of their lives.
Visuals captured across Delhi and its neighbouring areas flooded online platforms, depicting the immediate aftermath of the tremors.
Videos circulating on social media showed alarmed residents gathering outside their apartment complexes as the ground shook beneath them.
One particularly striking clip from the Budh Vihar area captured the moment roads and parked vehicles trembled under the force of the quake.
CCTV footage from a residential terrace in another locality revealed water tank pipes and electrical wires swaying violently at the height of the tremors.

At the New Delhi Railway Station, passengers likened the experience to the sensation of a high-speed train passing underground.
“It lasted for a shorter time, but the intensity was overwhelming,” one commuter told news agency ANI.
Further footage shared on the microblogging platform X showed ceiling fans swinging wildly, underscoring the quake’s force.
The sudden jolt left Delhi residents shaken but, as of now, no immediate reports of major damage or casualties have surfaced. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
