BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has urged the government to arrange the general election soon, without getting involved in any conspiracy.
"Don't get involved in any conspiracy and hold the election soon. You don't understand the language of people. We understand. People want a fair and free election,” he said on Wednesday.
Gayeshwar made the remarks while addressing a BNP rally at Lalmonirhat Railway Muktamancha.
The BNP leader said though people want a free and fair election, the interim government is talking about reforms constantly.
Criticising the government, he said some of its intellectuals fail to respect politicians. “There are some intellectuals in this government who do not know how to respect politicians. No one knows how the country is being run. The administration is not working.”
He said the prices of commodities are continuing to plummet though a farmer is not getting fair prices for his crops.
Gayeshwar said this government does not understand the language of the people, because they are not a government for the people.
He said the demand of the people and the youths is to elect a democratic government through the proper application of voting rights.
“If you, the (interim) government, can do this, then we’re by your side. After 16 years, we want a fair election through arraignment of proper election and voting rights," he said.
Lalmonirhat district BNP President and BNP Central Organising Secretary Asadul Habib Dulu also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, speaking at a rally in Khulna on Wednesday, said only an elected government has authority to amend the constitution.
“No one can amend the constitution except elected representatives of the people. Only a government elected by the people can bring the necessary reforms in the country. So, a free, fair and impartial national election must be held within this year,” he said.
Hafiz Uddin made the remarks while addressing a rally arranged by the BNP Khulna District unit at Shaheed Hadith Park in Khulna.
He said no international conspiracy should be allowed to protect the perpetrators who made the laps of thousand mothers empty during the July uprising.
BNP central information affair secretary Azizul Bari Helal and its assistant organizing secretary Anandya Islam Amit, among others, spoke at the rally.
