Jhenaidah-1 lawmaker Abdul Hyee dies

Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) lawmaker and District Awami League President Abdul Hyee has passed away while undergoing treatment at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Thailand.

The veteran politician breathed his last in the early hours of Saturday (16 March), Abdul Hyee’s personal assistant Shahidul Islam confirmed the news of his death today.

Former state minister Abdul Hyee raised the first flag of independent Bangladesh in Jhenaidah on the instructions of Bangabandhu. 

He was elected the district Awami League president for the third time at the party council in 2022. 

He won the 12th national election after being nominated by Awami League.

Abdul Hyee is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.

Family sources initially said the politician will be laid in rest in the family graveyard.

District Awami League has expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family on his death.
