Bangladesh's garment exports to the United States witnessed year-on-year growth in 2024, marking a recovery after a two-year decline, as the American apparel market rebounded with the easing of high inflationary pressures.

According to data from the US Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA), Bangladesh's garment exports to the US rose by 0.75% to $7.34 billion from January to December last year.

This resurgence follows consecutive years of decline attributed to the severe economic repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

In recent months, Bangladesh's garment sector has demonstrated resilience in shipments to its single largest export destination.

This upward trend culminated in December, when exports entered positive territory after months of fluctuating performance.

The country also recorded a 4.86% growth in export volume.

However, reflecting broader market trends, Bangladesh experienced a 3.94% decline in unit prices, which has adversely impacted profitability despite the increase in shipment volumes.

On a broader scale, the United States' overall apparel imports grew by 1.71% to $77.92 billion last year.

China maintained its position as the largest apparel supplier to the US, registering a year-on-year growth of 0.79% to $16.50 billion.
