Unpaid wages of Beximco Group employees, outstanding for five months, will be settled by February through the sale of mortgaged shares of two of its subsidiaries—Beximco Pharma and Shahin Pukur Ceramics, said Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr Sakhawat Hossain.
He made the statement on Tuesday (28 January) following the sixth meeting on Beximco affairs at the conference hall of the Ministry of Shipping.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, he described the financial irregularities surrounding Beximco as more severe than reserve fraud.
"We believe that what transpired in granting loans to Beximco is an even graver incident than reserve fraud," he remarked.
Dr Sakhawat further revealed that Beximco Limited’s total debt amounts to Tk40,000 crore, of which Tk12,000 crore was obtained against 16 non-existent entities.
