Bangladesh Railway's running staff have initiated a strike, effectively bringing train operations across the country to a standstill, as authorities have yet to resolve complexities surrounding the inclusion of running allowances in pension calculations and gratuity benefits.
In response to the disruption in train services, Bangladesh Railway has announced that passengers with pre-purchased tickets will be refunded.
The railway authorities disclosed this information on Tuesday (28 January), stating that despite conceding to a significant portion of the running staff’s demands, they have refused to withdraw from their pre-scheduled protest programme.
Consequently, train operations are expected to face severe disruptions from 28 January onwards.
Passengers affected by train cancellations will be eligible for ticket refunds, as confirmed by Bangladesh Railway.
