CA's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has criticised the previous Awami League government for disseminating false information, which he claims is now causing the interim government significant difficulties in controlling the market.
"Awami League had consistently misled the public by suggesting that production had increased year on year, whereas the reality was quite the opposite," he said speaking at the inauguration of a training programme on agricultural journalism on Sunday (19 January).
This misinformation, he stated, is the root cause of the current market instability.
Addressing the issue of price inflation, particularly in the potato market, Shafiqul Alam explained that efforts are being made to control syndicates.
He noted that lower production of potatoes has led to price hikes, contrary to the previous government's claims of bumper harvests.
Looking forward to the fiscal year 2025, he assured that the interim government's budget would be people-friendly.
He also mentioned the decision to provide dearness allowance to public servants, emphasising that this decision was taken after careful consideration of its necessity.
On the subjects of elections and reforms, the press secretary indicated that the Reform Commission’s report would be finalised following consultations with political parties.
The election date, he added, will depend on the extent of reforms desired.
In addressing issues of accountability, he asserted that all individuals within the Awami League responsible for bloodshed would face justice.
However, he clarified that there are no plans to ban the party, leaving such decisions to be made by political parties.
