The Board of Directors of the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) hosted an introductory meeting with the IDE-JETRO delegation at Hotel Amari, Dhaka on Sunday (22 December).

The Japanese delegation was led by  Fukunari Kimura, president of IDE-JETRO, and Mayumi Murayana, executive vice president of IDE-JETRO, said a press release.

Representing JBCCI, local board members and past presidents attended the meeting.

 Maria Howlader, Secretary General of JBCCI, presented a detailed introduction of the chamber, outlining its history and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening the bilateral relationship between Japan and Bangladesh.

During the meeting, JBCCI’s Board Members emphasised key areas of economic collaboration, including current economic relations with Japan, infrastructure development, logistics, the RMG sector, Japan’s demographic challenges, globalisation, techno-nationalism, and emerging opportunities for both nations.

The discussion also explored various potential for bilateral trade relations between Japan and Bangladesh.

Salahuddin Kashem Khan, past president emphasised on manpower particularly women to work in Japan as caregivers for the senior citizens in Japan. Asif A. Chowdhury, past president expressed the importance of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Japan and Bangladesh.

Moreover, Mohammed Sohel, Director shared his valuable insight regarding SME sectors and suggested to find ways to promote FDI opportunities in Bangladesh to develop this sector in Bangladesh.

AKM Ahmedul Islam Babu, director suggested to for introducing new projects like B-JET, etc to create opportunities for Bangladeshi IT Professionals to work in Japan.

Md Jahangir Alam Sharker expressed his insight regarding logistics industry that many discussions and transit related projects are going on to make the transportation system more efficient in Bangladesh. Hopefully, the transit system will become more effective. 

Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan (Jun), president of JBCCI, highlighted the valuable cooperation of JETRO and emphasised the ongoing negotiations between Bangladesh and Japan regarding the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

He also outlined JBCCI’s key initiatives and priorities in advancing these discussions. 

Additionally, JBCCI’s recently published study report on the EPA was shared with the delegation.

In response, Fukunari Kimura, President of IDE-JETRO, expressed heartfelt gratitude to JBCCI for organising the event.

He reiterated Japan’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Bangladesh and conveyed his hope for elevated bilateral ties and the prosperity of both nations. He also emphasised the importance of fostering stronger connections between the people of Japan and Bangladesh.

This meeting marked as another significant in strengthening the collaborative efforts between the two nations, paving the way for enhanced economic growth and deeper mutual understanding.
