More than 40 schools in New Delhi have been targeted with bomb threats communicated via email, raising alarms across the city.
Among the institutions affected are DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka School in West Bihar, which received the threats early this morning, as reported by NDTV.
The school authorities immediately informed the police and promptly evacuated the students as a precautionary measure.
According to a copy of the email obtained by NDTV, the threatening message was sent at 11:38pm on Sunday (8 December).
The email alleged the presence of multiple bombs inside the school buildings, further claiming, “The bombs are small and very well hidden.”
The sender demanded $30,000 to deactivate the explosives and wrote, “This will not cause significant damage to the building, but the explosion will injure many people. You will all suffer and lose limbs.”
Following the threats, bomb detection squads, dog units, and local police teams, accompanied by firefighters, rushed to the schools to conduct thorough searches. So far, no suspicious items have been found, according to the police.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police are investigating the IP address from which the email was sent and are working to trace the sender.
This is not the first such incident in the city.
On 1 May, similar threats were issued to eight schools in Delhi, resulting in the evacuation of several campuses.
Bomb squads and firefighting units were deployed in response to those threats as well.
Authorities have assured the public that safety measures are being rigorously enforced while investigations continue to uncover the source of the menace.
