26 dengue deaths reported this week, five in last 24 hours

Bangladesh recorded five more dengue-related deaths in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll this week to 26. The total number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease has now reached 514.

The Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released the data in a press statement on Thursday (5 December).

According to the report, 570 new dengue patients were hospitalised in the last 24 hours. 

Of them, 99 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka North City, 98 in Dhaka South City, 138 in Dhaka division (outside of city corporations), 34 in Rajshahi division, 54 in Barishal division, 47 in Chattogram division, 64 in Khulna division, 17 in Mymensingh division, one in Rangpur division and two in Sylhet division.

Meanwhile, 627 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals across the country in last 24 hours. With this, a total of 92,001 people have been discharged this year.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people, making it the deadliest year on record.

According to DGHS, there were 3,21,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in 2023.
