Students from Sohrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul Government College launched an attack on Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC), sparking violence and vandalism.

The incident, which left numerous individuals injured, occurred shortly after 12:30pm on Monday (25 November).

Following the attack and ensuing clash, students from Sohrawardy and Nazrul Colleges occupied the Demra Flyover.

Below the flyover, police stood on one side while DMRC students gathered on the other.

Reports emerged of bricks being hurled at the police, while injured individuals were rushed to hospitals.

The violence was allegedly triggered by the death of DMRC student Abhijit Hawlader due to alleged medical negligence at Dhaka National Medical College Hospital.

Protests had initially erupted on Wednesday (20 November) as DMRC students demonstrated outside the hospital.

The next day, students from Sohrawardy and Nazrul Colleges, allegedly led by their student wing, attacked the protesters.

In retaliation, on Sunday (24 November) students from over 30 colleges in Dhaka and its surrounding areas, including Notre Dame College, City College, Dhaka College, Narayanganj Government College, and Khilgaon Government College, joined forces with DMRC to launch counter-attacks on Sohrawardy and Nazrul Colleges.

Violence and vandalism ensued, culminating in a large-scale clash.

By Monday morning, students from Sohrawardy and Nazrul Colleges began assembling outside Kabi Nazrul College.

Later, two groups set out towards DMRC, chanting provocative slogans such as "We will strip the skin off Mollah’s students."

Over 40 students have reportedly been injured since the clashes began. One DMRC student recounted the events, stating, “When we gathered in front of Dhaka National Medical this morning to protest alongside nearby colleges, students from Sohrawardy and Nazrul Colleges attacked us again. We tried to resist them.”

Authorities are yet to confirm the total extent of the damages or announce any resolution to the escalating violence.
