Eight more people succumbed to dengue fever in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday morning, raising this year's death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 407, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the recent fatalities, five occurred in areas under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), two in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and one in the Chattogram Division.
During the same period, 994 new dengue patients were hospitalized across the country. Among them, 236 were admitted to hospitals in the DNCC region, while 148 were hospitalized in DSCC areas.
Currently, 4,173 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals nationwide, underscoring the ongoing public health challenge.
Since January 1, 2024, Bangladesh has recorded 69,922 dengue cases. Last year marked the deadliest dengue outbreak in the country, with 1,705 fatalities out of 321,179 reported cases. Nearly 318,749 patients recovered during that time, DGHS data shows.
Efforts to control the disease continue, with health authorities urging community action to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and enhance public awareness about preventive measures.
