A Dhaka court has granted remand of varying lengths for three individuals, including former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam, in connection with cases filed during the anti-discrimination movement.

Atiqul Islam has been placed on a five-day remand, while former Agriculture Minister and former MP for Moulvibazar-4, Dr Abdus Shahid, and Advocate Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi have each been granted three-day remands.

On Wednesday (13 November), the accused were brought before the court.

The case's investigating officers requested remand periods of different durations for the suspects.

Prosecution argued in favour of the remand requests, while the defence sought to have the remands cancelled and applied for bail.

Following the hearings, Additional Metropolitan Magistrates Mahbubul Haque and Farzana Shakila Sumu of Dhaka denied the bail requests and issued the remand orders accordingly.
