Adviser for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology as well as Information and Broadcasting, Md. Nahid Islam, has emphasized that political parties have a duty to support those injured in the July-August uprising. He made the remark on Thursday evening after a meeting with six advisers and victims of the uprising at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
When questioned about the issues that led to the victims having to take to the streets, Nahid Islam expressed regret, calling it "highly unfortunate." He stressed that honoring them is the duty of every citizen.
Nahid Islam added that supporting the injured and martyrs is a national duty, not limited to any particular government. "Political parties are obligated to support the injured and martyrs, and this responsibility must not be neglected. The current government will ensure their benefits and support."
On the demand for elections, he said, "When discussions should be focused on the martyrs and the injured, many are shifting the blame solely onto the government and turning attention to the election. I urge everyone to focus on the families of the martyrs and the injured, both publicly and privately."
Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, shared updates from the meeting, announcing that several initiatives have been adopted for short- and long-term rehabilitation of the injured. Ministries, alongside private foundations, will coordinate efforts to provide lifelong medical treatment, rehabilitation, and employment for the victims.
Also present at the meeting were Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum; Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S. Murshid; Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akter; Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan; Adviser Mahfuj Alam; Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the student movement; Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation; and Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, CEO of the foundation and brother of martyr Mugdho. Over a hundred injured student protesters were present at the meeting.
