The expansion of the interim government's advisory council was undertaken to enhance the pace and efficiency of its work, said Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan.
"Inclusion of new advisors aims to accelerate the progress of government initiatives. Additionally, a number of individuals have been appointed to roles with the rank of state ministers to facilitate this process," she said during a press briefing held at the secretariat on Monday (11 November).
She noted that public expectations for maintaining law and order and keeping commodity prices within reach have been duly considered in the decision to expand the advisory council.
In response to a question, Syeda Rizwana Hasan added that Mahfuj Alam's elevation in rank was a strategic move intended to deepen his engagement with various tasks.
However, no ministry responsibilities have been assigned to him.
Highlighting the government's prioritisation of justice and reform concerning the July-August mass killings, the environment adviser said that commissions already formed would finalise the remaining matters by Tuesday (12 November).
Following this, the reform initiatives will commence.
She further mentioned that while it is natural for political parties to demand elections, they are not rejecting the call for reforms.
No obstacles to reforms have arisen from the political parties thus far, she added.
