Political parties, including the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, have intensified their call for the removal of President Mohammed Sahabuddin.
Hasnat Abdullah, a key convenor of the student movement, expressed the urgency in his stance, posting on his personal Facebook account early on Monday (28 October), saying, “It’s now or never.”
In his post, Abdullah linked to a video by online activist Pinaki Bhattacharya, titled “Why Should Sahabuddin Chuppu Remain?” sparking widespread engagement.
The demand for the President’s removal had gathered momentum the previous day, Sunday (27 October), when leaders from the National Citizen Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement met with officials at the office of the Twelve-Party Alliance chairman.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Hasnat Abdullah reinforced the collective sentiment, stating that “President Mohammed Sahabuddin must go,” adding that there was broad support for this position.
He also noted that the Twelve-Party Alliance was unified in its call for the president’s removal.
Further discussions also touched upon the potential successor, should the president indeed step down.
