Police conducted a special operation against eateries lacking fire safety in the capital's Mohammadpur and arrested a total of 35 people on Monday (4 March).
“Yesterday, we raided hotels and restaurants in different areas of Mohammadpur and arrested a total of 35 people, including the owners and managers. Apart from this, whether the hotel-restaurants developed in the area have proper approval, whether gas cylinders are being used in safe places, how durable the security system is, fire extinguishers and risk issues are being looked into properly,” Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzil Haque Bhuya told Bangladesh First on Tuesday (5 March).
The operation was conducted in various areas including Geneva Camp, Ring Road, and Taj Mahal Road in Mohammadpur.
According to police sources, raids were conducted in 11 restaurants in various areas of Mohammadpur for irregularities and mismanagement.
DMP Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sabuj Rahman said, “The tragic accident on Bailey Road has left people all over the country grief-stricken. We have raided hotels and restaurants in different buildings to ensure that no such accident happens again.”
