The court has approved a 5-day remand for former MP Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon in connection with the attempted murder case of Jubo Dal leader Hriday Mia, following his arrest in Mirpur

The court has granted a 5-day remand for former Member of Parliament, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, in connection with the attempted murder case of Jubo Dal leader and assistant chef at Bangaliyana Bhoj in Mirpur, Hriday Mia.

On Tuesday (22nd October) Sub-Inspector Abdul Halim of Mirpur Model Police Station, the investigating officer in the case, presented Barrister Sumon before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court and applied for a 10-day remand for further interrogation.

After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain approved a 5-day remand.

Earlier, on Tuesday night at around 1:20am, Barrister Sumon was arrested from the Mirpur-6 area by the police.

According to the case statement, on 19th July, during an anti-discrimination student movement, Hriday Mia attended a rally at Mirpur-10 after performing Friday prayers. The rally was attacked by leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations, during which cocktail bombs were hurled, and shots were fired. Hriday was shot during the attack. He serves as the Senior Vice-President of Jubo Dal’s 10 No. Hatiain Union in Madhabpur, Habiganj.

Hriday filed the case at Mirpur Model Police Station on 23rd September, where Barrister Sumon was listed as the third accused in the FIR.
