The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants for Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of the Awami League, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former ministers Anisul Huq, AKM Mozammel Huq, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Professor Zafar Iqbal, and 37 others in connection with charges of genocide and crimes against humanity.
On Thursday (17 October), the tribunal, led by its chairman, Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, alongside two other members, Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury, issued the order.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tazul Islam represented the prosecution.
The court has directed law enforcement authorities to arrest the individuals and present them before the tribunal by 18 November.
It comes after a previous arrest warrant was issued in July-August for Awami League President and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, following accusations related to student protests against discrimination, during which alleged killings took place.
The tribunal deemed her arrest necessary for the investigation of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The case cites incidents from 15 July to 5 August during the anti-discrimination student movement, with provisions to include those who later succumbed to injuries sustained during this period. The entire nation of Bangladesh has been mentioned as the location of the crimes.
