Bangladesh has expressed its desire for a more active role from China in the repatriation of Rohingya refugees.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain emphasised the importance of China standing by Bangladesh during this period of political transition.

Speaking at a seminar titled "Bangladesh-China Relations" held at a hotel in the capital on Monday (14 October), Touhid Hossain remarked that Bangladesh wishes to deepen its military ties with China.

He stated that the only solution to the Rohingya crisis lies in their repatriation to Myanmar, and Bangladesh hopes for a more sincere and active involvement from China in this effort.

the adviser further noted that it is crucial for China to continue supporting Bangladesh during this time of political transformation.

He termed this period a historic opportunity, adding, "Our second independence has given us the chance to eradicate poverty."

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen reassured that the relationship between Dhaka and Beijing would remain strong.

He highlighted that China had stood by Bangladesh through various crises, from the COVID-19 pandemic to the July protests, with Chinese companies’ officials staying in the country during these turbulent times.

The ambassador expressed his optimism that the interim government would swiftly overcome all challenges, including law and order issues, and restore stability.
