The interim government has appointed Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid as the Cabinet Secretary for the next two years on a contractual basis.

A gazette notification, signed by Nilufa Yeasmin, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Contract and Foreign Employment Section of the Ministry of Public Administration, was issued in this regard on Tuesday.

According to the notification, his two-year service will be counted from October 14 or from the day he assumes office.

Dr. Rashid’s appointment was made in accordance with Section 49 of the Public Service Act 2018, the release stated.

Dr. Abdur Rashid ranked first in the 1982 Bangladesh Civil Service exams and joined as an admin cadre officer. 

He previously served as an Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs and was an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for nearly seven years.

On 18 August, Dr. Abdur Rashid was appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Education.
