Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has been discharged from Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, five days after sustaining serious injuries in a knife attack during an alleged burglary attempt at his Bandra residence.

On his discharge, Saif was accompanied by his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, and sister, Soha Ali Khan. He appeared stable and expressed his gratitude to the hospital staff for their care, reports The Hindu.

The attack left Saif with six injuries, including a critical wound to his thoracic spine. Surgeons performed a delicate procedure to remove a 2.5 mm fragment of the knife lodged in his spine, The Hindu reported. He underwent two critical surgeries—neurosurgery and plastic surgery—to treat the injuries.

Doctors have advised the actor to take complete bed rest for a week and to avoid visitors to minimise the risk of infection, NDTV reported, citing hospital sources.

Heavy security has been deployed at both the hospital and Saif's Bandra residence as fans have been gathering to catch a glimpse of the popular actor.

The incident occurred on 16 January, when an intruder broke into Saif Ali Khan’s home in what police suspect was a robbery attempt. Khan sustained multiple stab wounds in the attack, prompting immediate medical attention and a high-profile investigation into the matter.
