Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan is undergoing surgery after getting stabbed multiple times during an attack at his residence in West Bandra, Mumbai at early hours of Thursday (16 January).
Assailants, armed with knives, inflicted multiple wounds on the actor, leaving him grievously injured, reports The Hindustan Times.
He was rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, where he is currently undergoing surgery.
The actor's public relations officer confirmed the attack, stating that there was an attempted robbery at Khan’s residence.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
According to hospital sources, Khan suffered six stab wounds, with two being particularly deep, one near the spine and another on his neck.
Saif's PR officer appealed to the media and fans to remain patient, assuring that updates would be provided as the situation unfolds.
Lilavati Hospital’s CEO Niraj Uttam stated that Saif was admitted around 3:30am on 16 January, with six injuries, two of which were severe.
The police are interrogating all staff at Khan's residence to ascertain the motive behind the attack, whether it was a simple burglary or if there were other reasons.
During the assault, Saif's housemaid was also injured.
It was reported that Saif tried to intervene in an argument between the maid and an intruder, leading to the violent attack.
The police are investigating further to determine the full details of the incident.
