The price of gold in Bangladesh has once again been increased, marking the third such hike in January alone.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has set the price of 22-carat gold at Tk1,42,791 per bhori, following an increase of Tk1,365 per bhori.

This adjustment will be effective from Thursday (30 January), as announced in a press release issued by BAJUS on Wednesday evening (29 January).

The price adjustment follows a rise in the cost of pure gold (tezabi sona) in the local market. BAJUS, after considering the overall market situation, has revised the prices accordingly.

According to the new price list, 22-carat gold will be priced at Tk1,42,791 per bhori (11.664 grams). Meanwhile, 21-carat gold will cost Tk1,36,306 per bhori, and 18-carat gold will be priced at Tk1,16,827 per bhori. The price for traditional gold has been set at Tk96,018 per bhori.

The BAJUS announcement further details that, in addition to the gold price, a 5% VAT, as mandated by the government, and a minimum 6% labour charge, as set by BAJUS, will be applied to the sale price. The labour charge may vary based on the design and quality of the jewellery.

This is the third price hike in January, with the previous adjustment made on 22 January, when the price of 22-carat gold was increased by Tk1,983 per bhori, bringing the price to Tk1,41,426 per bhori.
