Grameenphone, Bangladesh’s leading telecommunications provider, has entered a strategic partnership with Ericsson to drive digital transformation through advanced AI-driven technologies. The agreement, signed on 22 January, marks a significant step in Grameenphone’s journey to enhance service efficiency and deliver personalised customer experiences.
The deal, one of the largest IT transformations in the country’s telecom sector, will enable Grameenphone to modernise its Business and Operations Support System (OSS/BSS) capabilities. Key components include Ericsson Order Care and Catalog Manager, which will enhance service delivery and 5G readiness. AI-powered tools will streamline operations, improve service availability, and accelerate the launch of innovative offerings tailored to customer needs, reads a press release.
The signing ceremony, held at a hotel in the capital, was attended by prominent dignitaries, including H.E. Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh, H.E. Nicolas Weeks, Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh, and Major General Md. Emdad Ul Bari (retd.), Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone, and David Hägerbro, Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, signed the agreement on behalf of their organizations.
Grameenphone’s CEO Yasir Azman emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership, stating, “The integration of Ericsson’s cutting-edge solutions will significantly enhance Grameenphone’s ability to streamline operations, accelerate digital transformation, and deliver world-class services to millions of customers.”
David Hägerbro, Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, highlighted the collaboration’s scale and impact, saying, “This partnership represents one of the largest ongoing collaborations in telecom management. With a leading OSS/BSS technology stack powered by AI and Ericsson Managed Services, we are well positioned to deliver significant value to Grameenphone and its customers over the next six years.”
Since their initial partnership in 1997, Grameenphone and Ericsson have consistently collaborated to enhance telecom services in Bangladesh. This new phase builds on the success of Ericsson Mediation, which processes over six billion records daily for Grameenphone. The extended partnership will introduce AI-driven solutions to improve efficiency and service availability, solidifying Grameenphone’s role as a leader in the country’s digital transformation.
