Ten eminent writers to receive Bangla Academy Literary Award

The Bangla Academy has announced the winners of the prestigious Bangla Academy Literary Award 2024, recognising the contributions of 10 eminent poets and writers in various fields of literature.

The announcement was made on Thursday (23 January) through a notification signed by Bangla Academy Director General Professor Dr Mohammad Azam.

The academy’s executive council approved the awards based on recommendations from the “Bangla Academy Literary Award Proposal Committee 2024” and the decisions of the “Bangla Academy Literary Award Committee 2024.”

This year’s recipients include Masud Khan for poetry, Selim Morshed for fiction, Shubhashis Sinha for drama and playwriting, and Professor Salimullah Khan for essays and prose.

Faruk Nawaz has been recognised for children’s literature, while G.H. Habib has been honoured for translation.

Muhammad Shahjahan Mia received the award for research, Rezaur Rahman for science, Mohammad Hannan for liberation war literature, and Syed Jamil Ahmed for folklore.

The awards will be formally presented at the inauguration of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2025. Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus is expected to preside over the ceremony and hand over the awards to the honorees.
