The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a show cause notice to mobile telecom operator Grameenphone regarding the issue of call drops.

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak shared the development with the media on Wednesday (3 July) following the launch event of the government’s AI-based platform, G-Brain.

Palak said, “Nationwide monitoring of call drops has begun. Any deviation from the regulations will result in hefty fines for the mobile operators. BTRC has taken a firm stance on the issue of call drops.”

Regarding the corruption case involving Tk55 crore in the Postal Department, the State Minister said that if the allegations are proven, legal actions will be taken, including the termination of the accused employees.

Previously, on Sunday, during a meeting at BTRC about the quality of service provided by mobile operators, the State Minister expressed dissatisfaction over call drops, saying that customer complaints are incessant.

He said within the next six months, call drops must be significantly reduced at the consumer level.

In most cases, mobile operators are failing to meet their promises, said the state minister, adding that customers are not receiving consistent 4G services across all areas.
