At least 4 individuals, including two women, lost their lives in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup van in the Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj in the early hours of Friday (18 April).
The fatal crash occurred around 2am in the Bakhrnagar area of Madhabpur, according to Madhabpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun, who confirmed the incident to the press.
He stated that the collision resulted in four fatalities on the spot. The pickup van was carrying a total of 17 passengers at the time of the accident.
Several others were injured in the crash, with at least five reported to be in critical condition. The injured were swiftly rescued and transported to the Habiganj Sadar Hospital for treatment.
The truck and the pickup van involved in the incident are now in the custody of the Highway Police.
Authorities said the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue at Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Efforts are ongoing to identify the victims.
While the exact cause of the accident is under investigation, local residents suspect that excessive speed during night-time driving may have played a role in the collision.
