With the Eid holiday drawing to a close, Dhaka is once again filling up as thousands return from their hometowns.

Commuters, many travelling by bus and train, have begun their journey back to the capital to resume work.

On the morning of Friday (4 April), Gabtoli Bus Terminal bore witness to the steady flow of homebound passengers.

Long-haul buses from various parts of the country continued to arrive, bringing back individuals and families alike.

While most were returning, a handful of travellers were seen leaving the city, primarily those who could not visit home during Eid and were now taking a belated holiday. However, their numbers remained minimal.

Rustom, manager of Purabasha Paribahan, noted a dip in passenger numbers.

“It’s still quite low. Since dawn, we’ve had only 15 to 16 passengers. Around five buses have arrived so far,” he said.

Among the returning travellers was Furkan, who shared his sentiments about leaving home after the festivities.

“I had a wonderful time with my family and friends. There was so much joy, but now it’s time to get back to work. Everything is a memory now, and I already miss it.”

Meanwhile, another passenger, Bijoy, was among those heading out of Dhaka after Eid.

“I couldn’t go home earlier due to work. Now, I finally have leave. I can’t wait to see my parents and spend time with them,” he said with anticipation.

As the holiday ends, the capital braces for an influx of commuters returning to their routines, marking the close of yet another festive season.
