The interim government will adopt a hardline approach if any attempts are made to destabilise the country, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam has said.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday (2 April) in Uttar Rampur village, Sadar Dakshin Upazila of Cumilla, after visiting the grave of Masum Mia and meeting his family, Mahfuj Alam referenced a New York Times report suggesting that extremism had found an opening in Bangladesh.

He asserted that no such opportunity would be allowed, adding, "We will ensure that no political or religious extremist forces can rise. Our goal is to facilitate a democratic transformation through elections."

The adviser emphasised that the people of Bangladesh must uphold the spirit of the martyrs.

"We are committed to concluding the trials of those martyred in mass uprisings. This government is working towards realising their aspirations, and the people stand with us. If political parties align with this vision, we can build a new Bangladesh," he stated.

On media reforms, Alam stressed the need for qualitative improvements in journalism, affirming that the Media Reform Commission's review and proposals encompass both rural and central press structures.

Among those present were Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan, Joint Member Secretary of the Bangladesh Nagorik Party Zainal Abedin Shishir, Sadar Dakshin Upazila Executive Officer Rubaiya Khanom, Anti-Discrimination Movement Cumilla Metropolitan Convenor Abu Raihan, and Member Secretary Rashedul Hasan, along with local leaders.
