In a shocking daylight shooting in Chattogram, two individuals were killed after assailants pursued their vehicle, opening fire in a brazen attack on Sunday (30 March) morning.

The incident occurred in the Chawkbazar area of the port city, with two additional victims sustaining injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Bakhteyar Hossain Manik and Md Abdullah, both aged between 30 and 36.

The injured individuals were named only as Robin and Hridoy.

According to Chawkbazar Police Station chief Zahidul Kabir, the attack took place when the assailants pursued the victims’ car from Baklia Rajakhali Bridge to the Chandanpura-Baklia Access Road, where they opened fire at the vehicle.

A rickshaw driver, who witnessed the harrowing scene, reported that the attackers, riding on motorcycles, chased the car, with registration plate Chattometro Ga 12-9068.

They ordered the car to stop near the entrance of the access road before shooting at the victims from both sides and the rear of the vehicle. The witness recalled hearing the victims' desperate cries for help during the attack.

Another rickshaw driver reported seeing a police vehicle stationed at the entrance of the access road, though it left the scene promptly after the gunshots rang out.

The car abandoned at the scene bore bullet marks on the back and bloodstains on both the driver’s seat and the rear seats.

Authorities have yet to provide further details regarding the attack, but sources suggest that the assailants may be associates of recently apprehended criminals Chhoto Sajjad and Bayejid, as well as local criminal Sarwar Babla.

It is believed that the murders were carried out in retaliation for the victims' involvement in Sajjad’s arrest, although police have yet to confirm this theory.

The brutal attack has raised concerns about the growing wave of criminal violence in the city, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
