The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a statement today confirmed that the news of missing 33 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel spreading on some social networking sites was rumour.

"Various social media platforms are spreading false information that 33 BGB members have gone missing in the Naf River while on a mission in the past two days," the statement said.

The information spread through social media is baseless and purposeful, it said.

The actual fact is that in the early hours of 22 March 2025, a boat carrying Rohingyas capsized due to strong currents while illegally entering Bangladesh by sea near Paschimpara Ghat in Shahparirdwip, Teknaf, it stated.

After receiving the information, BGB members on duty near the beach immediately rushed to the spot to rescue the Rohingyas along with local fishermen and were able to rescue 24 Rohingyas alive with sunken boat, it also said.

The statement said that during the rescue operation, due to the rough sea and the dark night, a BGB member might have slipped and disappeared into the sea.

The entire incident is extremely heartbreaking and rescue operations for the other Rohingyas, including the currently missing BGB member, are continuing wholeheartedly, it said.
