The Interim Government will take immediate steps to implement the media reform proposals that are currently feasible, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus stated on Saturday.

He made the remarks while receiving a report from the Media Reform Commission at the state guesthouse Jamuna.

"We want to swiftly implement the proposals that can be enforced immediately. Therefore, I urge the commission to present a separate list of recommendations that require urgent action," said the chief adviser.

He praised the work of the Media Reform Commission, led by senior journalist Kamal Ahmed, calling it invaluable. He also suggested that efforts be made to make the report accessible to journalism students and the general public.

The commission informed the chief adviser that Bangladeshi television channels are required to use a specific satellite, which prevents their broadcasts from being accessible abroad. In response, Professor Yunus assured that the government would take the necessary steps to ensure that Bangladeshis living abroad, as well as international audiences, can view Bangladeshi TV channels.

Commission Chairman Kamal Ahmed, along with other members, officially handed over the report to the chief adviser.

The commission members include Professor Gitiara Nasreen from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University, Shamsul Huda Zahid, editor of The Financial Express and a representative of the Editors' Council, Anjan Chowdhury, managing director of Maasranga Television and a representative of the Association of Television Owners (ATCO), Akhtar Hossain Khan, secretary of the Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh (NOAB), Syed Abdal Ahmed, former general secretary of the National Press Club, Fahim Ahmed, CEO of Jamuna Television and trustee of the Broadcast Journalists’ Center, Journalist Jimmy Amir, convener of the Media Support Network, Mostofa Sabuj, Bogura district correspondent for The Daily Star, Titu Dutta Gupta, deputy editor of The Business Standard, and student representative Abdullah Al Mamun.

The chief adviser reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring a free and modern media landscape through necessary reforms.
