BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas on Thursday alleged that efforts are being made to create "artificial divisions" among political parties, urging unity to rebuild Bangladesh.
Speaking at an iftar gathering hosted by Gono Odhikar Parishad at Sky City Hotel in Malibagh, Abbas emphasized the importance of political cooperation.
“We, the leaders of different political parties, are sitting together for iftar, enjoying this moment together. If we can continue working like this to build Bangladesh, where is the problem?” he questioned.
He warned that deliberate attempts to sow discord could undermine their collective achievements. “Artificial problems are being created, and different parties are accusing each other unfairly. If this continues, the victory we achieved on August 5 will be lost,” he cautioned.
Abbas noted that in previous years, attending such gatherings was fraught with fear and uncertainty.
“Now, that fear is gone. We have come here peacefully and will leave peacefully. This is a result of the victory of our movement on 5 August,” he said, stressing the need for continued unity in future political efforts, including elections and governance.
Another BNP Standing Committee member, Salahuddin Ahmed, echoed Abbas’s sentiments and called for a clear roadmap for the national parliamentary election. “Reforms, discussions, and proposals will continue, but we must make a decision regarding the national election. That is why we need a roadmap,” he said.
Ahmed revealed that the BNP had communicated its concerns and demands to the Chief Advisor during meetings, and assurances were given that an election roadmap would be presented. “We just want clarity that the Chief Advisor will soon provide a roadmap in line with the people's expectations,” he added.
