The Bangladesh Army has expressed strong condemnation of recent reports published by certain Indian media outlets, including The Economic Times and India Today, alleging a coup attempt and a breakdown in the chain of command within the army.

In an official statement, the army described these claims as "baseless and unfounded," labeling them part of a deliberate disinformation campaign intended to undermine the stability and reputation of Bangladesh and its armed forces.

The statement emphasised that the Bangladesh Army remains "strong, united, and fully committed" to its constitutional responsibilities under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff.

"The command chain is robust, and all members of the Bangladesh Army, including senior generals, are unwavering in their loyalty to the constitution, the chain of command, and the people of Bangladesh," the statement clarified, dismissing allegations of disunity as "fabricated and malicious."

Particular concern was raised over The Economic Times, which was accused of engaging in repeated disinformation campaigns. The army highlighted similar false reports published by the outlet on 26 January 2025, questioning the credibility and intent behind such repeated actions. Additionally, several online platforms and disreputable television channels were identified as amplifiers of these unverified claims.

The statement criticized the lack of adherence to responsible journalism by these media outlets, which failed to seek comments or clarifications from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) before publishing their stories. The ISPR reiterated its readiness to provide accurate and official information regarding the Bangladesh Army and urged media outlets to verify their information before publication.

The Bangladesh Army reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the nation’s sovereignty, integrity, and security. It called on all media outlets, particularly those in India, to act responsibly and avoid spreading false narratives that could create unnecessary tension and confusion.

The statement concluded with a reminder to the public and media that the Bangladesh Army remains steadfast in its constitutional duties, ensuring the nation’s stability and security in these challenging times.
