Syed Manzur Elahi, a distinguished business leader and chairman of Apex Group, has passed away while undergoing treatment in Singapore. He was 81.
He breathed his last at approximately 7:30am on Wednesday (12 March), with both of his children by his side, according to a Facebook post by his relative Syed Almas Kabir.
A towering figure in Bangladesh’s business landscape, Syed Manzur Elahi was the founding chairman and chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB).
He was also at the helm of Apex Group, leading the conglomerate to prominence.
Over his illustrious career, he was recognised for his contributions to trade and industry, receiving accolades such as the "Business Executive of the Year 2000" from the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), Bangladesh, and the "Business Person of the Year 2002" award.
Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavours, he played a pivotal role in governance, serving as an adviser to Bangladesh’s caretaker government twice, in 1996 and 2001.
