At least 4 people were killed as a fire broke out at a building in Shahjadpur, Vatara, Dhaka,

The fire broke out on the second floor of a six-storey building at around 12:15pm on Monday (3 March), said the fire service.

Two firefighting units from Baridhara Fire Station were deployed to combat the blaze, which was brought under control by 1:04pm.

Tragically, four individuals lost their lives in the incident. Their bodies were recovered from the sixth floor, with three found inside a bathroom and one at the base of the stairwell.

Disturbingly, the stairwell door had been locked, potentially preventing their escape.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the locked stairwell, which may have contributed to the fatalities.

Further details are awaited as officials assess the extent of the damage and any lapses in safety measures.
