Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has expressed the nation's deepest reverence for all fallen soldiers on the occasion of National Martyred Soldiers' Day.

In a statement on Tuesday (25 February), Yunus remarked, “Today marks the first official observance of National Martyred Soldiers' Day. In remembrance of the heinous massacre that took place at Pilkhana on this day in 2009, the interim government has resolved to commemorate this date annually.”

He solemnly honoured the memory of the valiant officers who perished in the tragedy, offering prayers for their departed souls.

Extending his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, he acknowledged the enduring grief of those who continue to await justice for their loved ones.

“The nation has been subjected to years of confusion following the brutal killings of our brave soldiers at Pilkhana,” he stated.

“As a state, Bangladesh bears the responsibility of ensuring justice for this atrocity. We are steadfast in our commitment to that end, and I trust that the people of this country will stand in solidarity with the martyrs’ families and all those who have suffered oppression.”

He further emphasised the significance of 25 February, stating that this day must serve as a moral compass for the nation.

“From now on, this date will remind us of those courageous souls who marched forward with a sense of duty to their country, only to meet an untimely and harrowing fate. Their sacrifice must inspire us to steer our nation along the path of righteousness, ensuring that tyranny, conspiracy, and arrogance never claim more lives.”

Yunus underscored the importance of fostering a society where individuals can attain their rightful place through merit and dignity.

He envisioned Bangladesh as a beacon of hope in the global fight against hunger, poverty, and unemployment.

“In memory of our martyred soldiers, let this day renew our commitment to building a self-reliant and enlightened Bangladesh,” he affirmed.
