The interim government has made 33 deputy commissioners (DCs), who had served as returning officers during the contentious 2018 national elections, Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

Ministry of Public Administration issued six separate gazette notifications on Wednesday (19 February), formally transferring these officials, all of whom hold the rank of joint secretary and were previously posted across various ministries and divisions.

The notifications also stated that the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President’s Police Medal (PPM), which had been awarded to certain superintendents of police (SPs) and unit chiefs following the 11th parliamentary elections, have been revoked.

This administrative overhaul follows an earlier decision to reassign 12 other district commissioners to OSD status for similar reasons.
