The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has revoked the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) licences of seven telecom firms following their failure to apply for renewal.

The BTRC issued a notification on Monday (20 January) detailing the cancellation of the licences for the following companies: Telebarta Limited, Ranks Telecom Limited, National Telecom Ltd., Bangla Phone Limited, Westec Limited, Onetel Communication Limited, and Integrated Services Limited.

According to the BTRC's statement, the decision was made because the licences had expired and the companies did not apply for renewal.

Consequently, any operation under the revoked licences will be deemed illegal and subject to penalties under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act, 2001.

Additionally, the BTRC has instructed these companies to return their original licence certificates and settle any outstanding dues to the commission within the next 30 days.
