Over 2,000 workers of Liz Apparels Limited, located in the Targach area of Gazipur city, abstained from work this morning, demanding the settlement of outstanding arrears.

The demonstration began around 8am on Monday (20 January) in front of the factory, according to Sub-Inspector Rajib Hossain of the Gazipur Industrial Police.

"The workers initiated the strike early this morning. We are facilitating discussions between the factory owners and the workers to resolve the issue. The demands include unpaid annual leave compensation," he stated.

A worker, speaking on condition of anonymity, criticised the company's repeated failure to fulfil payment promises, stating it has exacerbated their daily struggles.

"Despite our hard work, we are denied our rightful dues. Without these payments, we will not return to work. If this issue persists, we will escalate our protest to the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway," the worker warned.

Ziaul Kabir Khokon, president of the Gazipur district branch of the Bangladesh Garments Workers Trade Union Centre, highlighted the workers' grievances, noting that the owners appeared to be avoiding dialogue. "It's imperative that this matter is addressed without delay," he asserted.

Attempts to contact Liz Apparels Limited for comments were unsuccessful. However, the industrial police confirmed that they are in communication with the authorities to expedite a resolution to the workers' demands.
